Massachusetts Maritime Academy
Wind Turbine Project – Buzzards Bay, MA

Massachusetts' first state owned, commercial sized wind turbine was commissioned at the Mass Maritime Academy, Buzzards Bay, in June 2006. Jay Cashman, Inc, serving as general contractor for the $1.4 million project, installed the 660 kilowatt Vestas 47 turbine.

The MMA wind turbine has a simple payback of 7.5 years without the benefit of Renewable Energy Credits. Assuming that Renewable Energy Credits are valued at $.05 per kWh, simple payback will be 5.5 years.
